Applicants applying to study the One Year Higher Certificate in Nursing (R169) will need to meet the following academic requirements.

  • Life Science coe 3
  • Or Physical Science code 2
  • Minimum total score of 24

Only the results of six (6) subjects are used to calculate the APS. Life Oriented is not included.

The Western Cape College of Nursing will not give applicants admission for a higher certificate in nursing if applicants do not meet the minimum requirements to study the program.

Diploma In Nursing (R171)

Applicants applying to Western Cape College of Nursing to study diploma in nursing must meet the following academic requirements for admission.

  • First Additional Language: English code 4
  • Home Language code 4
  • Mathematics code 3 or
  • Mathematical Literacy code 4
  • Life Science code 4
  • Minimum total score of 24

Again, the results of only six (6) subjects are used to calculate the APS. Moreover, the result of Life Orientation is not used in the computation of the APS.

Applicants will be given admission to study Diploma in Nursing at Western Cape College of Nursing only if they meet the minimum admission requirements.

Bachelor of Nursing & Midwifery (R174)

Applicants who aim to study Bachelor of Nursing & Midwifery at Western Cape College of Nursing are expected to meet the following admission requirements.

  • First Additional Language: English code 4
  • Home Language code 4
  • Mathematics code 4 or
  • Mathematical Literacy code 5
  • Life Science code 4 or Physical Science code 4
  • Minimum total APS score of 27

Minimum Matriculation National Senior Certificate with Bachelor endorsement.

Additionally, applicants will be given admission to study Bachelor of Nursing & Midwifery at Western Cape College of Nursing on the basis that they meet the minimum admission requirements.

Advanced Diploma In Midwifery (R1497)

Nurses who want to further their careers with an Advanced Diploma in Midwifery at Western Cape College of Nursing (WCCN) should meet the admission requirements for this program.

  • Proof of current registration as a General Nurse at NQF level 6
  • Diploma (Bridging) in Nursing (General or Psychiatric Nursing)
  • Proof of registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a student for the duration of the study period.
  • Students must maintain their registration as Registered Nurses as well as registration as student midwives.

Prospective students for the Advanced Diploma in Midwifery must meet the requirements for the program at the Western Cape College of Nursing before they are given admission to study the program.

Postgraduate Diploma Programmes (R635)

  • Relevant 4-year Bachelor’s degree (NQF level 8, R174)
  • or
  • Relevant legacy Bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7, R425) / 4-year Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery offered under Regulation 425 of 22 February 1985 as amended.
  • or
  • A Diploma in Nursing: General Nurse (R.171) with Advanced Diploma in Midwifery (R.1497) (NQF level 7)
  • 2-year Diploma (Bridging course) leading to registration as a General or Psychiatric Nurse offered under Regulation 683 of 14 April 1989 as amended, followed by 1-year Diploma in Midwifery offered under Regulation 254 of 14 February 1975 as amended or 4-year Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery offered under Regulation 425 of 22 February 1985 as amended.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience, inclusive of a year of community service, as a Professional Nurse or General Nurse and Midwife. According to SANC regulation R 635 4(3).
  • Applicants must be a Registered Professional Nurse registered with the SANC.

There’s no way an applicant will be given admission without meeting the minimum admission requirements to study Postgraduate Diploma Nursing programs at Western Cape College of Nursing.

General Notes For Western Cape College Of Nursing Online Application
